Rider Profile

Best ForBest suited to intermediate and experienced riders who want a sharp, responsive naked bike rather than a beginner-friendly commuter.
PurposeBuilt for spirited street riding, canyon carving, and aggressive commuting rather than long-distance touring or off-road use.
Rider FitThe light wet weight and moderate seat height make it manageable for most rider sizes, though the tall stance may challenge shorter riders at a stop.
CharacterA high-revving, torquey inline-triple with premium suspension and electronics gives this SP variant a lively, precise, and premium-feeling personality.
Not Ideal ForNot the right choice for riders seeking a plush touring platform, passenger comfort, or any serious off-road capability.

2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP Rider Ergonomics Assessment

Calculated in your browser only - your height/inseam are never sent to our servers.

Feet:

At 835mm, a rider of 175cm with a 79cm (estimated) inseam will reach the ground with balls of both feet on the 2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP, with a relaxed knee angle of around 125 degrees and a forward-leaning riding position.

Data quality: measured. Assumes about 30mm of suspension sag once seated (a typical street-bike rule of thumb - stiffer or softer suspension will vary). This is an approximation from category-typical geometry and generic body proportions, not a measurement of this specific bike or you - sit on it before you buy.

⚠ Safety Recalls (1)

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:THROTTLE:THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS) Apr 2025 · 25V248000

Pure Sports Distributing Inc. (Yamaha of Hawaii) is recalling certain 2022 MT-09 Tracer GT, 2021-2025 MT-09 SP, 2021-2025 MT-09, 2022-2023 and 2025 MT-10 SP, 2022-2024 MT-10 and 2022-2024 XSR900 motorcycles. The brushes inside the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) may slide excessively due to improper ECU programming, possibly causing unstable idling or an engine stall.

Risk: Unstable idling or an engine stall can lead to loss of control of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of an injury or crash.

Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the engine control unit (ECU) software and replace the TPS, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 6, 2025. Owners may contact Yamaha of Hawaii customer service at 1-808-498-8248.
